1. What data we collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive:

• Your name and email address (used only to identify your account)
• A unique user ID provided by Google

We also store locally on your device:

• Your chosen learning language and level
• Vocabulary words and lesson progress
• App preferences (notifications, reminders)

We collect anonymous usage analytics via Google Analytics for Firebase: app opens, screens viewed, lessons started/completed, scores and similar in-app events, together with device type, app version, language and approximate region. This data is aggregated and used only to understand how the app is used and to improve it — it is not used to identify you personally.

2. How we use your data

• To sync your progress across devices via Firebase
• To personalise lessons based on your interests and level
• To send optional daily reminder notifications (only if you enable them)

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties.

3. Third-party services

• Firebase (Google) – authentication, cloud data storage and usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase). Firebase Privacy Policy
• The Guardian API – fetching news articles. No personal data is sent to this service.
• Groq – AI-generated lesson content. We send the news article text together with the language you are learning, your native language and your level, so the lesson can be adapted to you. Your name, email address and account ID are never sent. Groq Privacy Policy

4. Data retention

Your data is stored as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.

5. Children's privacy

Lingua News is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
